Making the European economy sustainable: a role for the new economic models?

View Calendar

Following the EESC's highly successful conference on the new economic models earlier this year, the European Commission, in its efforts to shift the European economy in a more sustainable direction, has now asked for civil society's input.

On 30 June the European Economic and Social Committee is organising a half-day public hearing to gather practical examples and horizontal contributions on how the EU can create policies to foster a more sustainable economic social and environmental system through these new economic models (collaborative, circular and functional).

Together with speakers who will share their experiences and recommendations based on their active involvement in these new economies, the attendants will be debating the following practical questions:

  • How can we reconcile economic prosperity and efficiency, social inclusion and environmental responsibility?
  • What role can social innovation play for better resource efficiency and sustainability?
  • How can EU policy and regulation contribute to reaching these goals?
