Braemar social care project

Improvement of services / infrastructures, Employment

The social innovation here is to try to repatriate social care to the community (over 500 people). Recently when floods destroyed the main access road social care which is conventionally now driven in by the regional level agency was unable to reach beneficiaries. The idea is to create work and a better set of caring arrangements through a local trust - there are several scheme currently running in Scotland. It would help elderly, and disadvantaged households get better service.

• It will provide services to older people by providing care from locally based staff. • It would help elderly people who have significant problems to be kept in their homes rather than get sent to old people homes which are at least an hour drive away. • It will create local jobs, reduce leaching out of funds and give a better service. Creating local jobs meings freeing care staff travelling long distances to improve services closer to their homes • There will be an associated volunteering project to give non-apid support to old people
