WELCOME TO SIMRA

Social Innovation in Marginalised Rural Areas (SIMRA) is a project funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. SIMRA seeks to advance understanding of social innovation and innovative governance in agriculture, forestry and rural development, and how to boost them, particularly in marginalised rural areas across Europe, with a focus on the Mediterranean region (including non-EU) where there is limited evidence of outcomes and supporting conditions.

The Mediterranean, with its ecological and social specificities, has untapped potential to contribute to the leading role played by the forest sector in the global bioeconomy. New ideas and approaches are essential to improve the management of natural resources in this diverse and dynamic region, while sustainable and functional bioeconomy value chains must be created to realise the full worth of the region’s forests and support its rural livelihoods.

EFI’s Young Leadership Programme – Mediterranean edition (YLP-MED) provides training, knowledge sharing and networking on Mediterranean forest-based value chains and their contribution to a circular bioeconomy. Young professionals will interact with global and regional leaders, network with peers and develop strategic thinking on how to manage and use forest resources to address societal challenges.

The YLP-MED will take place from 26 November to 1 December 2018.

The venue is the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site in Barcelona, Spain, where EFI has its Barcelona Office.
